Gimyujeong Station (Gyeongchun Line, exit 1). Turn right upon exit. You can see the big Rail Park entrance sign ahead. 2 mins walk. About 2 hours on subway with transfers from Seoul/ Myeongdong Station (2,850 won).
Notes:
-
Travel by subway recommended for its flexible timings and lower travel cost instead of ITX+subway. If you take the ITX, you will still need to transfer to the infrequent train on Gyeongchun Line to Gimyujeong Station.
-
Unlike other subway lines, there are limited trains (about 2-4 trains per hour) on Gyeongchun Line. So, please buffer enough time for your journey. Use subway app - Kakao Metro.
-
When transferring to Gyeongchun Line at either Cheongnyangni (KTX), Hoegi, Jungnang, Sangbong (KTX) or Mangu Stations, please take note:
a) The subway line colour of Gyeongchun Line is closely similar to Gyeongui-Jungang Line operating at these stations as well.
b) These 2 lines may share the same platform. If so, please ensure the approaching train is heading to Chuncheon (last station) on Gyeongchun Line. Look out for the signboard on the platform or follow the train timing on Kakao Metro app. See subway line map guide below.
c) If required, transferring at non-KTX station might be simpler.
The Gangchon Rail Park, built on the discontinued train line is the largest rail bike course in Korea. From the popular Gangchon Rail Park, visitors pedal on the 2/4-seater rail bike to enjoy breathtaking mountainous countryside and Bukhan River scenery, uniquely different in each season.

Gangchon Rail Bike Course
1. The rail bike departs from the Gimyujeong Rail Bike Station to Nanggu Village (6km, 40mins).
2. At Nanggu Village stop, visitors can take a refreshment (and toilet) break and immerse in the scenic view around.
3. From Nanggu Village stop, visitors will next board the Romance Train to Gangchon Rail Bike Station, 2.5km. There are enclosed, semi-enclosed and open-air sections on board the Romance Train, allowing passengers to enjoy the beautiful scenery alongside Bukhangang River.
4. From Gangchon Rail Bike Station, there is a free shuttle bus service about 5 mins walk away, departing 5-10 mins after getting off from the Romance Train to bring visitors back to departure station, Gimyujeong Rail Bike Station. There is a public toilet along the way to shuttle bus stop too.
Alternatively, visitors can spend some time at the small town with many restaurants (well-known for its spicy stir-fried chicken) and ATV Bike & Bicycle Rental shops along the main road to Gangchon Station (20 mins walk).
Amazing Things to Do & Eat around the small town upon arrival at Gangchon Rail Bike Station (completion point):
Instead of taking the free bus shuttle back to Gimyujeong Rail Bike Station, why not take some time to explore the small town at Gangchon Rail Bike Station? From here, you can walk to nearby Gangchon Station for train back to Seoul.
a) Gangchon ATV Four Wheeler Bike Rental (25,000 won/hr)
Getting on the ATV is one of the must-try in town! You can pick any of the many ATV rental shops along the main road all the way to Gangchon Station (subway).
Gangchon Theme Land 강촌테마랜드
This ATV rental place is located just across the bridge from the main road, a short 8 mins walk away from Gangchon Rail Bike completion point.
-
Good number of ATVs available for rental.
-
The friendly staff will guide you to a short ATV 'familiarisation' course at the big carpark nearby before bringing you around the scenic course including the riverbank below the bridge and taking photos for the group.
-
If you are lucky, the staff may offer you a free car ride to the nearest Gangchon Station (subway) too! 😉
b) Gangchon Popular Spicy Stir-fried Chicken Restaurants
There are quite a number of restaurants in town along the main road. Pick one that catches your attention.
Ways to Enjoy Gangchon Rail Bike on a Day Trip from Seoul:
-
At the end of the rail bike course, rent a ATV (no driving licence required!) nearby to leisurely explore the scenic surrounding and complete the day with a sumptuous meal in town! OR
-
Start the day to either Nami Island or The Garden of the Morning Calm followed by Gangchon Rail Bike.
Due to infrequent bus and train services, we won't recommend rushing through all 3 attractions (or even Petite France) in one day unless you can start the day very early and have brief stops at each attraction.
Much said, it is totally feasible to visit 3 attractions (including Gangchon Rail Bike) during December to March when the The Garden of Morning Calm opens till late (21:00/23:00) for the Lighting Festival (a must visit!).
Difference between Gangchon Rail Bike & Gapyeong Rail Bike, which to choose?
-
If you would like to visit more than 2 attractions at Gapyeong (i.e. Rail Bike, Nami Island, Petite France or The Garden of Morning Calm) on a single day trip from Seoul, Gapyeong Rail Park will be the obvious choice as it is nearer to Nami Island/Petite France and covered in Gapyeong City Tour Bus route.
-
Other than the above reason, Gangchon Rail Bike will be the popular option as it a 1-way bike course followed by the Romantic Train whereas Gapyeong Rail Bike is a return journey (i.e. the same scenery on the way back). Also, there are many fun themed tunnels at Gangchon Rail Bike, not available at Gapyeong Rail Bike.
